Students from the School of Materials Science & Engineering at Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) won multiple awards, including the top prize, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources Award (Grand Prize), as well as the Korean Standards Association President Award and the Korea Planning & Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology President Award, at the ‘1st Advanced Industry Standardization Competition’ held at SKY31 Convention on November 21.

Co-hosted by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources) and the Korean Standards Association, this inaugural competition aimed to invigorate interdisciplinary education combining majors with standards and enhance students' practical standardization capabilities. Participating teams competed on topics including theoretical and case studies integrating major-specific technologies with standards, as well as standard and certification analysis.

The ‘Clever Senior’ team from Kookmin University's School of Materials Science & Engineering (Park Jin Seok, Kim Do hyun, Kim Dong il, Park Yong wook, Hong Yun hee / Advisor: Professor Hong JOHN) won the Grand Prize after receiving high praise from the judges. Other Kookmin University teams also won awards consecutively, including the Korean Standards Association President's Award and the Korea Planning & Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology President's Award.

This achievement is particularly significant as it resulted from the ‘Engineering Design (Major + Standard Convergence Lecture Program (Korean Standards Association) / Instructor: Professor Hong JOHN)’ course conducted by the School of Materials Science & Engineering. The course integrated standardization strategies with major-specific knowledge, demonstrating the tangible outcomes of linking education, research, and field-based training.

The grand prize-winning ‘Clever Senior’ team will receive an overseas exchange training opportunity as a bonus. Building on this achievement, the School of Materials Science & Engineering plans to accelerate its efforts to cultivate practical talent equipped with standardization capabilities.
