Celebrating Kookmin University's 73rd Anniversary

Celebrations for Kookmin University’s (KMU) 73rd were held at Administration Hall lobby on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. Special performances featuring both professors and students marked the event and were proceeded with an opening address, a commemorative video, a memorial address, the recitation of a congratulatory poem, the singing of the school song, and a closing address. Celebrated performances — such as a vocal ensemble, piano and strings concerto, vocal solo, chorus, and other such musical numbers — followed the ceremony. Performances were given by undergraduate or graduate students, in conjunction with faculty from the arts department. The performances were composed in such a way that all KMU members could enjoy them, deviating from the events’ existing way.

The celebratory meal was followed by a congratulatory reception and the presentationof achievement awards for a number of fields to commemorate the school’s anniversary. Awards included the long-service achievement award, professor achievement award, personnel achievement award, and Industry-Academic Cooperation achievement award. A total of 64 professors and school personnel received awards.

In this celebration, the President Hong-Jae Yim said “KMU is celebrating its 73rd anniversary. Seventy-three years have already passed since Haegong Ik-Hee Shin founded our small school from wood in Changseongdong, from which it has blossomed into the bright school we know in Jeongneung-dong. While previous celebrations have proceeded in formal fashion, we have prepared a hearty celebration to commemorate the historic day on this occasion. I hope you all enjoy the festivities and join in celebrating our school’s 73rd anniversary.”
