Kookmin University's seventh president, Chung Soung Jin (鄭城鎭, 84) (term: 2000.03. ~ 2004.02.), passed away on the morning of the 12th due to old age.
Born in Yeongcheon, Gyeongbuk, he attended Gyeongbuk High School and Seoul National University Law School, passed the bar exam in 1963, and served as the head of the Central Investigation Division of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in 1993, chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission in 2004, and Minister of Justice in 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Seo Shin Deok, and children Chung Jae Hoon, Chung Seung Hoon, and Chung Ju Hyun.
During his tenure as president of Kookmin University, he laid the foundation for the growth of Kookmin University by establishing the College of Architecture in 2001, declaring UI, completing the Art Center, establishing the Graduate School of Business and IT in 2002, announcing the "Leap 2010" project, being selected as an excellent university for education reform by the Ministry of Education, and opening the Residence Hall in 2003, and solidifying the beginning of a new leap forward for Kookmin University.
