Developed the 1st Interactive Digital Brand Book (Guidelines) / Brand Design Lab, Graduate School of Techno Design

Brand Design Lab professor Kim Min’s team, the Graduate School of Techno Design, Kookmin University (responsible for a research professor, 3 researchers, and a research assistant) created the new University of Integrated Images UI (University Identity) 2.0 Design Guidelines in about 4 months. Since the first one was published in May 2001, they have been reflecting on changing the contents to UI for the past 10 years and completely overhauling the system.

Also, the existing offline booklet that was published in the same format as that of a leading university provides a consistent image of the university by establishing digital format guidelines through the full use of online advantages so an image of university trust is built.

In the case of the previous one, UI 1.0, it had upgrade constraints for contents and accessibility because it was made of paper documents. Therefore maintaining management, user management and a limited amount of information were all disadvantages. Because of these problems, they upgraded the online interactive and digital brand (guidelines), which makes it possible to interact easily by using the digital advantages of online in 2.0.

Other universities and companies just partly open the UI (University Identity) or CI (Company Identity) image format, or PDF, and e-Book. There is no place to fully offer search and download capabilities. In contrast, the online interactive digital brand book that Kookmin University offers, has an experience more like a real book, and is the first UI electronic manual that allows downloading the table of contents and searching select items. Also, user’s understanding is increased through the use of video files and the completed format matches well with the digital age.

One of the remarkable achievements of the dedicated school of calligraphy is called the "Kookmin" as a UI 2.0 development. About 200 Korean fonts based on previous Korean logotype were made of a combination from each symbol and done by hand, but this completed font was done through UI 2.0 and is used by installing it in Windows and Mac OS. With this, we are expecting that our image could be distinguished from other colleges as well as improving the quality of our work. The calligraphy “Kookmin” is a digital font including Korean, English and punctuation marks. It can be used in two styles, bold and regular depending on the thickness of the letter needed.

Search and data can be downloaded via the National University of UI 2.0 http://ui.kookmin.ac.kr website.
