On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 27, Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) held a plaque unveiling ceremony for “Hur Yong-soo Hall” in Room 106 of the Administration Building to commemorate the sponsorship by Heo Yong-soo, Vice Chairman and CEO of GS Energy, on behalf of the Seungsan Nanum Foundation.

Kookmin University named the seminar room in Room 106 of the Administration Building, which was established using development funds from the Seungsan Nanum Foundation, “Hur Yong-soo Hall,” and organized this event to express gratitude for the support provided for the university’s development. The university plans to incorporate the spirit of the Seungsan Nanum Foundation and Executive Vice Chairman Hur Yong-soo, who have supported the university’s future, into this campus space to ensure it is remembered, and to utilize it as a meaningful venue that supports the educational, research, meeting, and exchange activities of the university community.

The event was attended by key officials, including Executive Vice President and CEO Hur Yong-soo, as well as Kim Ji-yong, Chairman of the Kookmin Academy Foundation; President Jeong Seung Ryul; Director Ki Byung-jun; and other members of the executive leadership team. Through the unveiling of the plaque, attendees celebrated the new beginning of “Hur Yong-soo Hall” and reflected on the significance of sponsorship for the university’s development. Executive Vice Chairman Hur Yong-soo served as a director of the Kookmin Academy Foundation for four years starting in October 2021. After serving as CEO of GS EPS, he currently serves as CEO of GS Energy.

The progress of the remodeling of Hur Yong-soo Hall and its future plans for use were also introduced. Hur Yong-soo Hall has been renovated with a focus on serving as a seminar room and is expected to be widely utilized for major international conferences, educational and exchange programs, and events related to external cooperation. The plaque was installed at the entrance to Room 106 of the Administration Building so that members and visitors using the space can naturally learn about the significance of the sponsorship.

Vice Chairman and CEO Hur Yong-soo stated, “I am deeply honored to be able to contribute, even in a small way, to Kookmin University’s journey of nurturing future talent and expanding its reach to the wider world,” adding, “I hope that Hur Yong-soo Hall will become a meaningful space for learning and communication for students and the university community.”

Kookmin University President Jeong Seung Ryul remarked, “I believe the immense trust and generous support that Executive Vice Chairman Hur Yong-soo has extended to our university go beyond mere financial assistance; they are an expression of a deep philosophy and affection for the values of scholarship and education.” “This space, newly created through his noble intentions, will now serve as a foundation for learning and reflection for all members, and as a venue for creativity and collaboration for faculty and researchers, establishing itself as a precious space that illuminates the future of our university,” he said, expressing his gratitude.

Meanwhile, to mark its 80th anniversary, Kookmin University is strengthening its competitiveness in various fields, including education, research, industry-academia collaboration, and international exchange. The establishment of “Hur Yong-soo Hall” serves as an example of how external support for the university’s development is being integrated into the campus environment. Kookmin University plans to continue respecting the intentions of its donors and expanding a culture of donor appreciation that fosters the growth of the university community.
