Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) hosted a special lecture by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon at the Kookmin University Academic Conference Hall on the afternoon of Friday, 14 November.

Organised by Kookmin University's Graduate School of Global Peace and Unification, the event was attended by approximately 300 participants, including President Jeong Seung Ryul, Dean Kim Hyoung Jin, professors, and undergraduate and graduate students.

Former Secretary-General Ban delivered a message of challenge to students on the theme of 『Climate Crisis and the Role of Citizens』. He particularly emphasised that "to overcome climate change and its crises, we must establish sustainable development plans based on international cooperation, and future generations must take a keen interest and translate this into action.’ He further stressed, ‘Addressing the climate crisis, one of the many challenges facing humanity, is now the most crucial task for us and is essential for the very existence of all humankind. Therefore, policy support for carbon neutrality must be strengthened."

Professor Yeo Hyun Chul of Kookmin University's Graduate School of Global Peace and Unification, who organised the event, stated, "The current inter-Korean relationship is at a 'zero' point requiring a fresh start." He added, "It is a time when we must deliberate on measures to reduce the risk of accidental armed conflict on the Korean Peninsula and discuss solutions to the climate crisis, which concerns the shared destiny of humanity."

Former Secretary-General Ban, widely recognised as an expert in diplomacy both domestically and internationally, has served as Presidential Senior Secretary for Foreign Affairs and National Security, the 33rd Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations. He currently serves as Chairman of the Ban Ki-moon Foundation for a Better Future and Honorary Director of the Institute for National Future Strategy at Seoul National University. After graduating from Seoul National University's Department of Diplomacy, he received honorary doctorates from Seoul National University, the University of Cambridge, and the National University of Singapore.
