During the recent summer break, Kookmin University's Sport, Health, and Rehabilitation Major visited Middlesex University in London, UK, through the SGE (Short-term Global Experience) programme, completing academic and cultural exchanges in the fields of global sports health rehabilitation, sports performance analysis, and sports analytics. This programme was designed to enable students to directly experience overseas sports environments while simultaneously developing both academic knowledge and practical skills.

A key component of the programme was the StoneX Stadium Workshop held in London. Here, students broadened their horizons by learning about sports analytics and its practical application in English football alongside Zaheer Shah (Head of Methodology at Tottenham Hotspur FC), Seamus Brady (former professional analyst, currently a PhD candidate), and FIFA analyst Bang Jae Won.

Particularly resonant was the confirmation of the value of performance analysis as a tool capable of examining not only players' performances during matches from purely technical and tactical perspectives, but also sensitive issues such as deliberate underperformance. Students gained a new awareness that such analysis not only aids in understanding individual players' motivations or psychological factors, but also plays a crucial role in preventing match-fixing or unethical behaviour.

The process of revealing invisible micro-movements and patterns through data analysis was a meaningful experience, demonstrating firsthand that it contributes not only to tactical planning and coaching but also to securing sports ethics and fairness.

Students experienced cutting-edge sports science facilities and educational infrastructure firsthand during a Middlesex University campus tour, witnessing the frontline of global sports education. Subsequent EPL and FIFA guest lectures featured speakers who are active professionals in their fields.

Bang Jae Won (FIFA Performance Analyst), Jang Ja Hee (Peterborough United FC U-16 Academy Lead Analyst), and Lee Dong Yoon (Brentford FC U-21 S&C Coach) shared insights grounded in real-world experience, covering player performance analysis, youth academy operations, and physical conditioning methodologies. Through the question-and-answer session, students gained direct insight into the challenges faced in the field and their solutions, providing concrete inspiration for their future careers.
