Kookmin University promotes CG experts with Macrograph Co.-winning contract in Hollywood’s visual special effects

Kookmin University fosters world-class CG experts together with a company that won a contract concerning nation’s first Hollywood’s visual special effects.

             Department of Entertainment Design at Kookmin University has signed the MOU on  solidarity for education with Macrograph Co., a company which in the year 2008, for the first time in nation’s CG business, has won the contract in the animation of Hollywood movie(The Forbidden Kingdom, starring Jacky Chan) as well as the whole visual special effects. Through this agreement, Kookmin University and Macrograph Co. are planning to train globally acknowledged specialists on CG visual special effects and are also expected to support national policy and privately-managed projects on CG as well as content. Moreover, now that in last 8th of April, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance has announced development strategy-investing 27 trillion won in the industry of content, media, 3D and producing 80,000 people by the year 2014-this is highly anticipated to be an example of solidarity for education and research development between university and corporation.

 

             Signing MOU has encouraged a newly created College of Design at Kookmin University to set up CG track (tentatively named “MG Class”), directly operated by Macrograph Co. in regular curriculum and to turn out experts with the level of Hollywood’s visual special effects. Meanwhile, Macrograph Co. can directly train required manpower under reciprocal solidarity for education.

 

             Macrograph Co., established in the year 2007, was awarded on the part of image technology in the 44th Dae-jong movie festival, showing off outstanding CG technical skills through Korean films ‘For Horowitz’, ‘The Korean Peninsula’, ‘The Restless’ and a Hollywood film ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’. Recently, Macrograph Co. is in charge of visual special effects for , a final film of business supporting development of technology for 2009 global project at the Korea Creative Content Agency. It has become the talk of the industry that the company was involved in the production of Hollywood’s new film with CG production cost itself being 70 billion won.
