Intellectual Property Education System of Kookmin University


Kookmin University was selected in ‘the Project of Intellectual Property Education Leading University’ that was supervised by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and executed by the Korea Invention Promotion Association. ‘The Project of Intellectual Property Education Leading University’ intends to cultivate creative human resource that is equipped with intellectual property competence by reinforcing intellectual property oriented education. From 5 years, Kookmin University will be supported 900 million won of project expense and with this, professors specialized in intellectual property like patent attorneys will be appointed and new courses and linked majors will be established to cultivate creative human resource specialized in intellectual property.

Director Dae-jeong Kim (Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Director in the Center for Innovation in Engineering Education) said, “Creative intellectual properties like patent, software, design, and contents have emerged as the core competitive power not only in universities but also in nations and businesses. Through this project, it intends to establish the differentiated signature educational model of Kookmin University while harmonizing conventional intellectual property right as well as creative, innovative, and entrepreneurship education. Also, creative converged human resource that is specialized in intellectual property will be cultivated for the betterment of the nation and businesses.”
