GM and Kookmin University concluded an MOU for industry-academic cooperation at 1:30 p.m. on the 24th in the presence of GM Global Design VP Ed Welburn and GMIO Design Executive Director Michael Simcoe.
The MOU was concluded “for the promotion of mutual development and benefit as well as the development of the design and contents industry in Korea while maintaining the close and amicable mutual relationship between GM and Kookmin University.”
Through this MOU, the students majoring Industrial Design in the College of Design were granted an opportunity to take the course of transportation with GM, focusing on the international industry-academic system. With this MOU concluded with Kookmin University, GM was able to search for various possibilities in terms of transportation means and formulate dynamic programs to cultivate talented human resource equipped with readiness for the future of design. This MOU is said to be the achievement realized after a number of conferences between GM and the faculty of the Department of Industrial Design for 5 years.
After concluding the said MOU, the personnel of GM (General Motors) and GMK (General Motors Korea) moved to the Department of Industrial Design in the College of Design to assess the status of progress and support for the industry-academic cooperative program.
Later, the students had a presentation on the course outcome realized up to that point as well as the further academic schedule with professor Do-seong Jeong, Gwan-bae Kim, Jung-sik Jang, Myeong-heum Yeon, and Emmanuel. As for the details related to the presentation, the concept of this course was set as the suggestion of ‘a city car’ that abide by the traffic congestion of Istanbul.
To realize further progress, the industry-academic cooperative student exchange program will be operated and supported with other related academic institutions from various countries, focusing on the global GM.
The combination of the world-renowned motor company GM and the Department of Industrial Design in the College of Design at Kookmin University is expected to bring about a significant social effect. Also, it will serve as a momentum to establish a keen relationship with GM by sharing the design produced in Kookmin University and improve the value of academic course that can simultaneously promote internationalization.
