On the 7th of last month, ‘Stemcell’ (Team Members: Seung Hoon Yang (05),
Young Jun Kim (05), In Ho Seo (05)) of the Korean History Dept. got the silver
prize at the UCC Video Competition Season 7. The competition is in association
with UCC Video YouTube and is held by the PCNB, which is directly responsible to
the President and supported by Google Korea.
With the purpose of
promoting Korea and letting the world know the value of Korea, the PCNB UCC
Competition along with YouTube and now in its seventh year, began in 2009 with
the theme ‘Digital Life’. This season, 86 works competed with the topic of
‘Korea’s Cultural Legacy, Sowon and Buddhist Temples’ from September 29 to
October 31.
The team ‘Stemcell’ created a 2 minute 30 second long UCC
video clip with the title ‘Dosan Sowon, a Symbol of Korean Mental Culture.' They
have been praised for expressing the contained meaning of Sowon and Korean
cultural value, explaining the history of Dosan Sowon and its inner structure.
In Ho Seo, the team leader, said: “The power and value that nations have
came from the part of the mind which is a thought. In that aspect, it is very
meaningful to have the title of ‘Sowon’ which was the place leading the Chosun
Dynasty Period where neo-Confucianism was taught, and is appropriate with the
title of the Competition.” He also commented: “I think we received a great
evaluation because we focused on delivering the meaning and roles of Sowon in
making the video.”
