Professor Choi Hyun Joo from our university's School of Materials Science & Engineering has received the prestigious ‘Cheoljae Award’ from The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials, a leading academic organization in the domestic metals and new materials field.

Founded in 1946, the Korean Society for Metals and Materials is Korea's largest materials-focused academic society, leading academic advancement and industrial technological innovation in metallurgical engineering and new materials engineering. The ‘Cheoljae Award’ is presented to researchers who have achieved outstanding research results in the steel field and made exceptional academic or technical contributions.

Professor Choi Hyun Joo has pioneered advanced materials research, including the development of lightweight, high-strength metallic materials, enhancing mechanical properties through nanostructure control, AI-based alloy design, and metal additive manufacturing. She is particularly recognized for her contributions to developing materials capable of withstanding extreme environments demanded by the aerospace, energy, and automotive industries, earning high praise from both academia and industry. Furthermore, she is spearheading efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of Korea's materials industry by collaborating with industry to develop customized material design platforms and driving material innovation using AI and big data.
